This is a PD Bites continuing professional development module about recognising and responding to mental health crisis within a support worker's role in Aged Care, Disability and Community Services. If you need accredited MHFA training, seek it from a licensed MHFA provider.
Support workers are frequently the first and sometimes the only person to notice that someone is not coping. You are not a clinician and this module will not make you one. What it will do is help you notice earlier, respond in a way that does not make things worse, and hand over to the right person quickly.
How this module works Read the content straight through. It takes most people around an hour. Then complete the quiz at the end. You need 80% to pass, and your certificate appears on screen immediately. The quiz is open book, there is no time limit, and you can reattempt as many times as you need.
This module discusses suicide and self-harm It does so because support workers encounter it and need to know what to do. It does not describe methods. If this material is difficult for you, and it is for many people, including many who work in care, take breaks and get support.
