RPL has an image problem it has partly earned. In parts of the sector it has been sold as a shortcut, priced like a product, and delivered on a turnaround that no genuine assessment could meet.
That is unfortunate, because done properly RPL is one of the most defensible things the VET system does. It recognises competence a person already holds, saves them repeating what they can already do, and it does so through a robust assessment process. The problem has never been RPL. The problem is RPL that is not assessment.
How this module works Read the content straight through. It takes most people around an hour. Then complete the quiz at the end. You need 80% to pass, and your certificate appears on screen immediately. The quiz is open book, there is no time limit, and you can reattempt as many times as you need.
Currency statement and scope This module reflects the position as at August 2026. The Outcome Standards for RTOs came into full regulatory effect on 1 July 2025, and ASQA has published a practice guide on recognition of prior learning and credit transfer.
Training product requirements govern. Where a training package or a licensing requirement restricts or prevents RPL for a particular unit, that requirement prevails over anything in this module.
